Through the Mining Press Agency investigations, most of the illegal works in the La Merced parish of Buenos Aires, which had caused extensive damage to the environment between 2017 and 2019, were unveiled and evicted.

Since then, the excavation works of the mining concessions in the area have been affected, as in the case of the Hanrine company, which has had problems with local communities to resume its initial exploration activities in Imba 1.

There is a conflict between those who oppose mining and those who practice it illegally.

The parish residents set up a blockade for 100 days at the main entrance to the center of La Merced in Buenos Aires, preventing the passage of Hanrine’s staff.

Last August 3rd, a control operation was carried out, in which around 300 uniformed personnel participated, allowed access to the place, and permitted the workers to return to Imba 1.

The road’s closure was against the workers’ rights, such as free movement and freedom of speech. So the employees feared being attacked if they claimed to belong to this company.

In Hanrine, there are 100 direct workers from the 23 communities in the Urcuquí area. Another 250 people work on a rotating basis with the company. The personnel was affected during the impediment of the passage to Imba 1. 60% of the workers belong to the La Merced parish of Buenos Aires.

The Mining Press was at the site and managed to document the successful actions of the Public Force to reestablish order and for the law to reign in Buenos Aires.
